Bike Taxi

Year: 2013

Medium: Artist riding a pedicab, panting and sweating

Dimensions: variable; original drawing for poster 24x32 cm

Bike Taxi was a part of >10 («Overten») exhibition initiative. The project consisted of a series of group exhibitions that opened simultaneously at more than ten Moscows gallery and museum spaces (12 or 13, I don't remember exactly...). All the exhibitions carried sets of identical works organised in a particular order so that the same exhibition effectively reproduced itself more than ten times.

All the curatorial and logistical tasks have been executed by the artists participating in the project. All the exhibitions (venues included the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, All-Russian Decorative Art Museum, and XL Gallery among others) were connected by a rickshaw bicycle route.

For this project I hired a bike cab and was transporting the viewers from venue to venue according to a pre-developed timetable. I was trying to entertain my passengers by supporting a conversation about art, but these cabs are damn heavy, and I didn't use electric enjine, so it was mainly me panting and sweating and art lovers inquiring if I were okay.

I was just having fun, but in hindsight the whole thing might have been a nice observation on the theme of embodiment of art work.

Here's a snippet of a project documentation.
